I have had so much fun showing you all around the Ickworth property! From the acres of gorgeous land, kitchen gardens, and vineyards, to the Victorian kitchen and servants' quarters, all the way up to the incredibly ornate party palace in the Ickworth rotunda-- knowing that I would be sharing it with you made it that much more fun for me! And I have also loved chatting with you all about it in the comments. This is the last of these pictures, but I am hoping to go have dinner at the Ickworth Hotel (where the Herve family actually lived) sometime and have a tour there. Of course I'll bring my camera and come back to show you anything interesting!
But today, let's wrap up by just check out some of the many beautiful chandeliers in the rotunda. This one was my favorite:
And here's the most dramatic, I think. It made me think of Great Expectations.
This one is so ornate, but I love the more simple lights hung throughout the house, in hallways and over staircases.
These kind of details are what I love most about older spaces-- so much beautiful detail in the practical elements. Now that we have a National Trust membership, I will be looking for more spaces like this to share with you!
What have you enjoyed most at Ickworth?

I really love those simple 'chandeliers'. I was just talking to Gary about how hard it was to pull off proper ones. Thanks for sharing all the fun pictures of Ickworth.
ReplyDeleteI love the simple ones, too! So glad you've enjoyed. I can't wait to find another property to share.
DeleteI love a chandelier!
ReplyDeleteI think I've liked the pics of the grounds the most.
I'm with you, Robin-- I LOVE the grounds. We have visited the outside four times, but the inside only once-- there is enough to keep you busy all day outside.
DeleteOh, Ariana, I'm so glad you have a National Trust membership! My dad and I spent many a weekend driving to different NT homes, wandering the gardens, having a spot of tea, and generally having a marvelous time! I've been to Ickworth several times, but by far my favourite NT home is Oxburgh Hall. The gardens there are absolutly splendid, especially in summer when everything is in bloom. If you go, make sure to take the spiral staircase to the roof to view the gardens... simply magnificent!
ReplyDeleteJen, thanks for the recommendation-- I will definitely be looking up Oxburgh Hall! We have a full year ahead of us, checking out all of these awesome NT properties!
DeleteI love the "broaches & earrings" of an old home.
