Sundays are for Sharing

Hi there!  I hope your weekend is going well.  We are staying in our own neighborhood and not celebrating any birthdays or throwing any parties, which is kind of nice at this point.  Time to tidy up the yard, plant some more vegetables, and hang curtains in the bedroom.  We will be welcoming our very first visitor(!) this week, and it's fun to spruce up a bit around here in preparation!  OK, let's get to some reading...

Food and Travel:
I am going to do something a little unusual this week and share two posts from the same person-- David Lebovitz is in Israel, and I really enjoyed a tour he shared of a hummus factory,  and also a post about Israeli breakfast foods.  These made me very, very hungry.

Do yourself a favor and set aside a decent chunk of time to absorb this beautiful, food-based trip to Japan and Hong Kong from Katie.

Inspiring:
I just love stories like this one, that showcase human ingenuity and resourcefulness.

Here's a simple, beautiful post from Amanda about a really cool camp for families, helping them to reconnect with nature, and learn traditional skills and crafts, empowering young and old to live more sustainably and closer to the land.  I wish I could go!

Maybe you've already seen this flash mob video-- I don't usually watch most of them, honestly.  But this one, even though it was orchestrated by a business, still moved me. Watching the faces of the people as they responded to the music just made me well up.  Music can be incredibly magical.

For the Kids:
I thought this idea of leaving discovery scenes out for curious minds was so cool! I think this would work much better for kids younger than Amelia, but I know many of you have little ones around, and might be able to use this lady's awesome ideas.

There are many ways to see Paris, but I loved the way Jenny's family did it recently-- going from playground to playground, letting her daughter play tour guide after readings some great kids' books on the city.  So fun!

Cool Stuff:
I enjoyed the watercolors of neighborhood storefronts from artist Grace Lee this week.

And I really want one of these:  the best playhouse ever, not just for kids!

Here's a simple, helpful how-to on making professional-looking flower arrangements.  I thought the video was really good.

Lastly, I wanted to let you know that our story was featured at Expat Focus this week!  I hope it will inspire others who are looking to take the expat plunge, or reach for something they've been dreaming about.

Have you come across anything beautiful, inspiring, helpful or interesting this week?

  1. Ariana, I heard about this flash mob video but hadn't seen it. So beautiful and moving...and yes I welled up too. Who cares what was behind it, I'll bet it made a whole world of difference to people esp. those who were there!

  2. I hadn't seen the flash mob video either, beautiful! And you are right about the discovery scenes, very simple yet inspiring. I've finally come prepared with a link, there was a blogging competition at In Search of a Life Less Ordinary that I participated in, with quite a few wonderful entries - check out the comments section at http://www.insearchofalifelessordinary.com/2012/06/no-more-bad-photos-competition-paris-je.html. Very different takes based on bad photos.

And wonderful post on Expat Focus!

Something I love about blogging is the way that I can meet people from all over the world, and we can have conversations about life and the subjects at hand. Please introduce yourself, I would love to hear what you have to say!
