Happy Sunday! I hope it has been a nice week for you-- we've had some sunshine mixed with clouds and rain, but I'll take the rays as they come! I have a wide range of reads for you this week, I hope you find something either interesting or inspiring.
Brits and Gardens:
Creative Inspiration:
Leo & Pipo are making really fun street art in Paris, with a fun and unusual back-story....
I loved this video about ceramicist Karin Erikkson's work. She makes it look so easy!
Manos, Pottery Studio from Oscar Liedgren on Vimeo.
Vicarious Travel, UK Edition:
Now that it's "summer," and it's not raining all the time, I am looking forward to exploring more in our adopted country. There is such a long list of things to do and places to go, that when the weather looks good on the weekend I practically freeze, overwhelmed with the options!
Jenny and her family visited Dover, where we were arriving on our ferry last week-- we looked up and saw the white cliffs and a castle, and wondered what it was like up there. She took some beautiful pictures, and now I am sold-- we will absolutely have to go!
Devon is a destination Jeff and I have wanted to visit, ever since watch River Cottage-- our family's favorite English show. It sounds so idyllic... Laura took us along on her visit (virtually) and it looks so beautiful!
And, lest you start to get the idea that meaningful travel has to be far from home, please consider the magic of seeing your own town from the vantage point of a child. I loved this photo essay about a day in the village with Maren. (Baby animals included!)
Media Magic:
Lastly, I wanted to tell you about a really sweet French film we watched this week. A couple of family members had recommended Romantics Anonymous to us a while back, and when I came across it on iTunes, I was sold just 10 seconds into the trailer. So sweet and quirky-- I think you will love it. Plus, there's chocolate!
Alright, I think that does it! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. Happy Father's Day to all the papas out there! We are headed to the beach today, hoping the slightly sunny weather holds....
Brits and Gardens:
According to the Daily Mail, Prince
Charles told a TV interviewer in 1986: ‘I just come and talk to the
plants, it's really very important…They respond I find.’ And it turns out that he was right!

Oh what a sweet film! I must see it.
ReplyDeleteDid you watch it? It is so fun! I would totally see it again.
DeleteWe recently took a trip through Devon to Cornwall when my daughter came for a visit. I'm in the middle of blogging about it if you're interested. The Southern coast of England is gorgeous!! I would highly recommend if you haven't been there yet. Love your blog! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh, we have been dreaming of a trip to Cornwall! It's a trek for us, but I know the drive would be gorgeous, and of course the actual destination totally worth it! I will definitely go check out your adventure there!
DeleteI absolutely love your Sundays are for Sharing feature - you always find THE most interesting links - I really look forward to it every week.
ReplyDeleteI was especially excited about the link you posted to the Daily Mail article about plants talking. I find that to be such a fascinating subject and I've read things about it here and there. I have to confes I've even half-heartedly tried singing to my tomato plants in a desperate bid to have a successful crop in the gloomy northwest. But it especially reminded me of a book I'd been wanting to read and then forgot about. It is called "The Secret Life of Plants" and apparently goes into this topic as well as many others. A friend read it and it comes highly recommended. You should check it out - I just put a hold on it at the library! http://www.amazon.com/Secret-Life-Plants-Peter-Tompkins/dp/0060915870/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1339995399&sr=8-1&keywords=the+secret+life+of+plants
And that French film looks delightful - charming! I'm going to put it in my netflix queue. Thank you for the tip!
Marisa, I am so glad to hear you enjoy these links. I do put in quite a bit of time rounding them up, so it's very gratifying to know you love reading them! How are those tomatoes coming along? I ended up picking up a couple of plants, since my elderly neighbor (who I haven't actually met) propagated some and was selling them on a cart by her steps. I figured I might have success with those, since they were obviously being grown by someone in my own microclimate. The Secret Life of Plants looks so interesting! I love this science/ biology stuff...
DeleteMy husband and I just watched the movie upon your recommendation (being fans of french films - our favorites are Amelie and Nothing to Declare/Rien á déclarer), and it was GREAT!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tip! My favorite line was: "Let's hope nothing happens to us." :D
Hi E-- I am so glad to hear that you took the recommendation and enjoyed it! French films are my favorite, especially the light-hearted ones. I love the Jean-Ren character-- I thought he was super adorable... I will definitely have to check out Nothing to Declare-- thank you!
DeleteI am loving all things French at the moment, having just returned from Paris. That street art is so fascinating, and I have put the movie on my list of films to see.
ReplyDeleteThanks for feeding my inner Francophile and for mentioning my post on Dover. I think you and your family would love a visit to the castle and the cliffs!
I am looking forward to seeing your Paris photos, Jenny! We have totally been loving our quick visits to France, and now we are seriously looking for some French language classes around here. I was really glad to see your Dover pictures-- it helps to get a little preview before deciding whether to drive a couple hours to see something new!
DeleteMy best and quickest French-fix is to watch TF1's 13h. It's a lovely news program, as it has many regional flavour segments in each episode, as well as weekly series. It's a great way to brush up on your French and get to know France!

Thanks, I'll look it up! We are really wanting to learn to speak French, now that we know we'll use it every month or two!
