Hi Everyone! What a wonderful week of sunny weather! Life is better, and my skin is browner. We're headed to the beach in a few minutes-- a new one we've heard great things about in Norfolk, I'm sure you'll hear all about it soon! In the meantime, let's make some visits...
Vicarious Travel:
I have a real soft spot in my heart for Sevilla. Even though I grew up with plenty of travel, I didn't make it to Europe until my honeymoon, about eight years ago. Jeff knew I was dreaming of visiting Spain, and although neither of us had a lot of money, he saved to make a Spanish honeymoon possible. Sevilla was where we spent most of our time, and I loved it so much. I loved walking through this post by Amanda, and recognized those gorgeous buildings, even though I knew nothing about them when I was there!
We loved our visit to Italy last year, and have really wanting to go back. After reading Jodi's very picture-rich post about gluten-free eating in Italy, it has moved up on my list a few notches!
Kids and Food:
Kids and food are such a natural combination. I think that most kids really love to cook and grow their own food, if they are given the opportunity. So I was please to find a great post on kids and cooking, and then extra-pleased to read about a Scottish girl who is making an impact on school lunches in the UK. And I'll throw in a link for my petite chef, as well.
Just Food:
Now that the sun has come out, I am in full-on summer mode! I am craving berries and picnic foods, sangria and iced tea. On my menu this week: Melissa's Vietnamese Chicken Salad.
Speaking of other summery foods... I have to say, Canelle et Vanille is my #1 escapist blog-- Aran's pictures completely transport me to a very happy, delicious place. I love this post that includes not only berries, but poppies and rhubarb-- which we are seeing a lot of here right now.
One item on my TO DO List is: Learn to Enjoy Goat Cheese. I'm still working on it, but I 'm sure that once I check that little box, I will love these. Just because I'm not there yet doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy!
Homesteading:
As you know, we're super interested in growing our own food. We just got chickens, and are always thinking of what could be next. Bee-keeping has been on my mind, but it seems just a little daunting. So I really enjoyed this post of Amanda's about handling an unforeseen bee emergency with grace and good humor. She's kind of my hero.
Expat Life:
Thank you for processing with me about culture shock this week-- I really appreciated your insights and empathy.
After reading this post from The Expat Wife, however, I'm pretty sure I don't have much to complain about! I think she has handled a very trying situation with grace and perseverance.
Lastly, I'd like to leave you with a little tutorial that could seriously save you at a picnic this summer.
I hope you're enjoying some sunny weather, as well! Happy Sunday!

I can't believe a bottle of wine can be opened like that! If I wasn't wearing sandals I'd give it a try right now. I will try this, I'm a big fan of Macguyver, and honestly I always forget the corkscrew!
ReplyDeleteLiene, you have to let me know if you try it! I am really curious to see how well it worked. I don't speak much French, but it seems like he spent a lot of time explaining that the force must go through the heel to the cork! I'd love to know how easy it is for the average person... It looked pretty reliable!
